PHYSICS-based retrieval of scattering albedo and vegetation optical depth using multi-sensor data integration

Vegetation optical depth and scattering albedo are crucial parameters within the widely used τ-ω model for passive microwave remote sensing of vegetation and soil. A multi-sensor data integration approach using ICESat lidar vegetation heights and SMAP radar as well as radiometer data enables a direct retrieval of the two parameters on a physics-derived basis. The crucial step within the retrieval methodology is the calculus of the vegetation scattering coefficient KS, where one exact and three approximated solutions are provided. On the Accuracy of the Backward Hemispheric Integrating Nephelometer

Abstract Modified integrating nephelometers are used to measure backward hemispheric scattering coefficients together with total scattering coefficients. These parameters yield information about the chemical nature of the aerosol particles in certain situations involving relatively pure compounds. They are also used as input parameters in climatic models. In this study the effects of the three angular truncations in the modified integrating nephelometers are investigated. We provide a quantitative base to be used with these instruments to determine hemispheric backscatter of aerosol particles and its relationship to the total scattering coefficient.

Electron Emission of Pt: Experimental Study and Comparison With Models in the Multipactor Energy Range

Experimental data of secondary emission yield (SEY) and electron emission spectra of Pt under electron irradiation for normal incidence and primary energies lower than 1 keV are presented. Several relevant magnitudes, as total SEY, elastic backscattering probability, secondary emission spectrum, and backscattering coefficient, are given for different primary energies. These magnitudes are compared with theoretical or semiempirical formulas commonly used in the related literature.
